The medals of the prize which awards grenache grape variety were won by Durin , Viarzo and Terra della Luna
Ligurian wines registered an excellent result at the 2018 edition of Grenaches du Monde, the international competition which promotes quality wines from all varieties of grenache vine. This year, in the fifth edition held in Gandesa (Terra Alta in Catalonia), Italy won 37 medals, of which 29 gold and 8 silver ones.
Liguria won one gold and three silver medals, an acknowledgement which is even more important considering the slim representation of grenache wines in this region, compared to others.
The award ceremony was held yesterday, Tuesday April 17, in the stand of Sardinia at Vinitaly, attended by the long-standing director of the competition, Yves Zier. “A total 839 wines took part in Grenaches this year. The Grenache family gets bigger every year , even if in Italy it is difficult to recognize this variety, due to the many different names it has in the country: Grenache, Cannonau, Bordeaux in Marches…Names which, on the other hand, make grenache’s territories even more beautiful to discover.” And before moving on to the award-giving session, Zier concluded his speech: “ In the world of wine, one never ceases to learn. This is the spirit of Grenaches du Monde.”
Here are the awarded Ligurian wines:
Azienda Agricola Durin: 1 gold medal for “Alicante 2015” IGP Colli Savonesi Granaccia and 1 silver for “Granaccia 2016” DOC Riviera Ligure di Ponente Granaccia.
Azienda Agricola Viarzo: 1 silver for “Trexenda 2016” IGP Colli Savonesi Granaccia.
Azienda Agricola Terra della Luna: 1 silver for “Caligré 2015” IGT Liguria di Levante Rouge.
The ceremony ended with a tasting session of all the awarded wines, accompanied by typical products from Sardinia. The next edition, in 2019, of Grenaches du Monde will be held in April in Roussillon.
